MPO光纤适配器的毗连方法与单芯的SC光纤适配器纷歧样，SC光纤适配器内部装配了陶瓷套筒，在SC毗连器插芯毗连时通过该套筒举行准确瞄准，而MPO适配器是接纳MPO毗连器插芯端面上左右两个直径为0.7mm的扶引孔与扶引针（又叫PIN针）举行精准毗连，因此MPO适配器没有单多模之分，SC光纤适配器有单多模之分是由于套筒质量纷歧样。MPO适配器被普遍的应用于通讯系统的基站、楼宇机房里的光纤配线架（ODF），MPO盒子、州测试仪器上。
